About Us
Challenge and Adventure.com was started in 2003 by our dear friend Vikki Penney.
Vikki loved sailing and especially ocean racing and dedicated this website to supporting those who pushed the limits of the sport. She was part of Team Phillips with Pete Goss, a revolutionary catamaran that owed more to aerospace design than boat building, which inspired others to push the limits and overcome their fears, and tackle their own challenges. With this site she continued her support and worked with many of the world’s best ocean racers.
The Challenge and Adventure team has decided to continue this work in her honor.
1947 – 2008
Pete Goss said it best;
“Vikki was one of those rare people in life who only knew how to give and was always the first to step forward on behalf of others. She was a character and I think it was that that drew her to adventure sailing which became a passion. There can’t be many adventurers out there that have not been contacted or bowled over by her enthusiasm and generosity.
Vikki was many things in her life from a Country and Western Singer who toured Europe to the first woman to get a boatman’s license out of Brixham. She was hands on, down to earth and always up for a laugh.
Her last voyage was on ‘Spirit of Mystery’ as we motored round to the Classic rally in Plymouth. She lit up on the helm and was full of tales from her days in Brixham and couldn’t have been any happier.
This was a boat and project she loved and it was amongst friends as we motored into Sutton harbour that she suffered a fatal aneurism which took her from us.
Fair Winds Vikki – we will miss you and carry your spirit with us to Australia.”

The aim of this site is to bring you all the latest news hot off the press in the World of Challenges and Adventures, currently being undertaken by World Class men and women who dare to take on the World, and pit their wits against the forces of Raw Mother Nature, tempting fate, to satisfy the burning desires that lurks deep within their souls to achieve the impossible, pushing themselves to the limits and beyond.
Challenge and Adventure will not only bring you all the latest news, we will introduce you to the people who take on these adventures. From this site you will be able to meet the adventurers and learn why they do what they do, and where & how they do it.
We don’t aim to be the biggest sailing site online. Our aim is to give you the latest Ocean Racing News, with photos, videos and articles about the world’s newest, fastest, and most technologically advanced sailboats, their skippers and crews in their record breaking attempts around the world.
